You may have noticed lately that you are being increasingly bombarded with advertising. The current state of advertising in Australia means that as we get more and more sophisticated at identifying and ignoring marketing messages, advertisers need to push more and more ads to get the same result. And the cycle increases. We engage less so they push more and more.
You may not know it but we are wired through evolution to block repetitive and irrelevant information. It’s a survival thing. If we paid attention to everything thrown our way our brains would overload. There is even some evidence that those that aren’t able to block out input (called gating or sensory gating) develop psychological problems.
That’s why we built Screen Dopamine. We truly believe that we are at the beginning of engagement crisis and that if business want to engage with people in the future there will have to be something in it for both parties. There will also be a much higher retention of information if people can choose when and where that they see advertising. After all no one likes being interrupted!
